ooooh, it's good(!)

took me awhile to get to this book -- it's the same author [& read by!!!] "Charlotte's Web," which has a similar voice & some complementary themes [animals writing to communicate w/ humans, using English on one another, etc.]

Louis, named after the trumpeter it seems, lacks a voice, & his courageous father breaks into & steals from a music store to get his son a trumpet -- a journey begins(!!)

Louis gains many things hanging from his neck: the trumpet, a medal for saving a boy's life at camp, a purse of money, & a sign on which he writes w/ chalk to communicate w/ humans & his own swan family

many great things happen, & it's a special & delightful story; highly recommended
