"The Smoky God" by Willis George Emerson
book review by Riley Burnham 2/24/2023
something different for sure -- this thin book [even has pictures! hahaha] recounts the death-bed testimonial of Olaf, an aged Norseman, who claims to have sailed w/ his father in the 1800s near the North Pole, where they somehow got turned around in a storm; then rescued by giants(!?!?) from an Eden within the Earth...
so the short book spends most of the time getting us to the mysterious land; then spends a handful of pages describing giant trees & a "Smoky God" sun hovering at its middle
the tale concludes by the son & father emerging from the inner world after 2+ years, where they are shipwrecked by an iceberg [this time they're in Antarctica -- having come out the other side...] & the father dies -- the son [Olaf] is rescued by a passing boat, where his story lands him in medical/mental recovery until he makes it back to Stockholm; then to California where he meets the author
the book is full of odd claims, to be sure -- he talks about Gravity & being able to drop objects into the hole of the earth & having them hover around the midpoint...
i guess fun... glad it was short -- i'm a flat-Earther so this tale appears wholly fiction
