"The Long Haul" by Finn Murphy
book review by Riley Burnham 11/7/2022
good book -- keen insights
this one takes us on the road w/ an "aging" moving truck operator [a specialty in his field]
it's a deep-dive into the world & nuances of moving/shipping high-dollar/high-value estates, complete w/ the inside-baseball descriptions of the industry & trends
from proper methods, tales of experience, & a few key pitfalls -- to upgrading trucks, bedding women, changing careers, & ultimately leaves one w/ a finer sense of the job
it's an industry that is either quickly changing or possibly fading, w/ demographics bringing new languages, cheaper labor, & technology trying to displace tried-&-true methods
life on the road
also, he points out that "everybody owns the same stuff," more or less, which is kind of funny
he also points out that movers get an intimate view into people's lives [more than they're asking for/necessarily seeking], & so it's wise to be kind to them -- hahaha ["where do you want me to put these gay porn mags that were under the newspapers?"] etc. lol
make sure your trailers are properly secured [good god] & that when passing a big truck to spend little time if possible by their front tires
great read
