good book -- pretty wild & different

a collection of stories, first published in 1892 & recently translated from French into English

these stories are dark, macabre, "sad"/tragic, depraved... relying on a bit of historical precedent, these rework what seem to be genuine atrocities into narrative fiction -- the eunuchs, the king in the golden mask, the salt smugglers...

i enjoyed the primary story about the leprous king & his hideosity -- good stuff 👍
