"The Doors of Perception" by Aldous Huxley
book review by Riley Burnham 4/12/2023
hmmm...
a pro-drug-tripping book [mescaline here] written by the guy who's famous for "Brave New World," which i understand to be a medicated/pacified populace [to deal w/ the treachery of their "superiors," more or less]
i've read Huxley was a 'spook,' so went into this w/ a grain of salt & a discerning ear
he's saying, in essence, that we need a drug, which can be synthesized, that will produce an effect that people will take as a religious analogue...
he claims that once someone has gone through the 'doors of perception,' that they will inevitably return changed
he discussed the downsides to more famous mind-altering substances, such as alcohol, barbiturates, cocaine, etc.; & that each has drawbacks, if only in cultivation efficiency
so yea, by the end, i can see where books/works like these are/were meant to get people into drugs
