"Swipe Right" by Levi Lusko
book review by Riley Burnham 1/16/2023
really good stuff -- practical dating/marriage advice [read by the author] from a biblical/Christian point of view
the takeaways here are that hook-up culture is ruining us -- it's taking away [or replacing] long-term, committed, loving relationships; & replacing them w/ short-lived, lonely, disastrous flings that leave both parties hurt
harkening to his own experiences [admitting porn-addiction & its lingering pitfalls], he expresses that God will more or less take care of people who "hold out" for him/Jesus [like, be patient]; that the love of a good, righteous relationship/marriage will proffer the most good...
it actually seems like decent advice: we shun marriage & welcome casual sex which makes our intimacy more fleeting & less secure, which are some of the BENEFITS of truly cleaving to a partner
even in the examples that we provide to our children -- as role models, of course benefit from committed, engaged, loving marriages that demonstrate proper behavior
we lose this when the depth of our intimacy comes from "swiping right," or just using superficial cues to link up the next fling; looking forward to going merry ways afterward & living out our individual lives [as individuals of course]
really, it's a refreshing take on waiting for the right partner, where our feelings & brains go into nurturing overdrive, & we can embrace our place fully & dutifully
