this book was so dang good... the audio-version excellent, of course

smokejumpers, an elite & rare crew [~6000 total so far in their ~70+ year history], this one takes place pretty close to home for me -- Washington State, which apparently Winthrop [N. Central WA] was the original base for this particular type of firefighting

such a good story, again -- here we meet Jason, who takes us from pre-training to actual training to the fires themselves; complete w/ details & drama to bring us about as close to the fiery battle as most would like to get

from parachuting techniques to proper tools; safety & procedural etiquette; good & bad historical events; thoughts on the current state of affairs; the future of his profession...
