"Pageboy" by Elliot Page
book review by Riley Burnham 3/20/2024
welllllll
it's good
quite a story(!)
at a kind of hip-jerk reaction: this is a lot of negativity/attitude-bearing, w/ Ellen-then-Elliot being a victim & a victim & a victim
we get her lack-of-love from parents; then lots of [genuinely good] stories of her trying & falling in love; testing waters of various sorts
a heartfelt & obviously intimate book, one has to appreciate her insight & experience -- er, his
my take on trans: pretending, w/ very real/consequential body alterations nowadays commonplace
we're to root for her/him* at the end -- good job w/ surgeries & discovering yourself; finding solace in the world; matching good relationships...
one is also fair to worry that the turmoils that crave said drastic solutions may & likely will rear its head again, w/ great action already taken to pacify -- a 1-way street
all said, tho, glad i read it
