"Orthodoxy" by G.K. Chesterton
book review by Riley Burnham 3/27/2024
holy cow this is good(!!!!)
a new fav author, for sure -- precise wisdom, basically -- in this case on the topic of God/religion; comparing Christianity w/ Buddhism, atheism, paganism, & more; & stating clearly & profoundly why he's settled on [orthodox] Christianity
this is ace content for the theme -- & worth rereading
a great point/mention: Christianity/Jesus is a living teacher, whereas other heroes of the arts have died off... it teaches everyday
he concludes beautifully that Jesus was a tad shy, withholding his mirth
also that stoics are/were fools for essentially worshiping their inner light rather than anything external
also critiques Nietzsche, & expounds on optimists vs pessimists, noting generally that duality exists in all/most things, & that discerning balance is the way to go/look
