"Interior Chinatown" by Charles Yu
book review by Riley Burnham 12/5/2022
fun one -- audiobook production 👌👌👌
this is a narrative from the perspective of "Generic Asian Man," as a bit-part character in a recurring Chinatown-restaurant sitcom-venue
the wordplay is fun, w/ "meta" dialogue lines [cut to outdoor scene] -- quite fun
there's a mixture of total-fiction w/ what appears to be truthiness [experiences of Asian men living in America], as it finishes citing the 1960s repeal(s) of immigration quotas
he wants to be "Kung-Fu Master," until learning that it is still a Generic role, requiring little in terms of personality [an archetype]
good stuff; a unique view of race/language; playful; funny; varied... 👍
