"Gratitude" by Oliver Sacks
book review by Riley Burnham 3/6/2023
super-duper short one: 3 essays [audiobook] written in the last stage of Oliver's life, after he's diagnosed w/ terminal melanoma
the book is a clear-eyed reflection, facing the Great Transition, & giving a readout of how things look from the top of that slide
Oliver is glad that, by then, he'd written a memoir [completed just before his diagnosis], which allowed him to reveal his sexuality, as that had been a rough spot contrasted by his Orthodox family/upbringing
the book concludes w/ a biblical parody, of God creating the world in 6 days, then resting on the 7th; & like Oliver, he's done his work of living, & will now rest on the 7th
