"Flash Boys" by Michael Lewis
book review by Riley Burnham 9/16/2022
great book; a TON to learn here
long-story short: Wall Street (stocks) is rigged, w/ the advantage going toward high-frequency traders & their underlying technology [supported by the banks of course]
the book demonstrates the initial difference in successes between those w/ micro-second advantages [scalping from trades so quickly it can hardly be detected/traced]
the book then explores a handful of people that identified the rigging & set out to create their own exchange, which is pretty neat
it profiles a programmer who was arrested after saving some files before leaving his employer, & finishes w/ his statements as reflections & insights from time-served [how it changes one's mind]
it's fair to conceptualize the stock market as a carnival game set completely against the player [who has that money-stuff people want]
this was my third consecutive Michael Lewis [audio]book & i'll continue reading his work, w/ great interest
