"Based on a True Story" by Norm Macdonald
book review by Riley Burnham 1/5/2023
well... this was good -- also bizarre & surreal
by the end, i can say i like that Norm read it, & i like the addition of the ghostwriter having an arc & angle in the story... & that i lost track of reality & fiction somewhere along the way
a memoir w/ what appears to be some truth & a lot of just plain ol' entertainment
lots of talk about drugs & booze (liquid morphine & Wild Turkey, apparently)
honestly, the gambling stuff sticks out; the grim loan stands out; the suicidal ghostwriter sticks out; &... sad we lost Norm a couple years back
i would characterize his humor as completely self-effacing -- w/ most punch-lines being turns of expectation or just plain being a loser, lol [a "loser"]
i can appreciate this multicolored, whimsical book, & i'm glad i read it...
